CCOO demands guarantees for Correos employees after closure of Albacete nodal center

The labor union CCOO has demanded this Thursday that the working conditions of Correos employees be guaranteed following the establishment on Wednesday of the Negotiating Commission for the process of activity disaggregation from the nodal center in the province of Albacete.

«The staff cannot pay for the mistakes of the executives, and therefore, the closure of this center cannot result in a loss of rights or a deterioration of working conditions for the staff,» they have stated from the union.

CCOO has demanded that the company modify and improve the information provided, requiring that each vacancy include: specific shift and schedule; means of transportation for delivery; exact distance in kilometers from the nodal center; number of daily hours for part-time positions; required qualifications (such as a driver’s license); and possible bonuses that the affected person would no longer receive.

Additionally, CCOO has demanded that there be no loss of earnings and, if that were to occur, it should be compensated.

«From CCOO, we want to make it clear that we will not allow blind relocations,» warned the secretary of CCOO Correos Albacete, Eva Belmonte.

«The current proposal is insufficient, unbalanced, and aimed at reducing costs, not at protecting rights, and we will fight for the reduction of part-time positions and a real commitment to full-time positions, to eliminate unofficial and unrecognized schedules, and to obtain proposals for alternative positions to delivery by motorcycle for personnel without a driver’s license. And we will defend this firmly, without ruling out legal and pressure actions,» added Belmonte.

«FAILED MODEL»

The union has stated that the creation of nodal centers for the reception, sorting, and distribution of shipments was a result of «the model imposed by the former president of Correos, Juan Manuel Serrano, with the complicity of the Free Union of Correos, CSIF, and CIG.»

«At the time, CCOO already denounced that those centers included in the Strategic Plan, far from being the great labor achievement they intended to sell us, were the beginning of the dismantling of Correos,» they have stated from the labor union, arguing that «time has shown it was a failed model that promoted precariousness and now it is the working people who will suffer the consequences.»
