El Campeonato Regional de Ajedrez por edades se celebra en Villarrobledo.

Villarrobledo is hosting the Regional Chess Championship by age, with over 200 participants from 27 clubs in Castilla la Mancha.

This morning, the presentation of the Regional Chess Championship by age, which will take place in Villarrobledo from April 11 to 14 at the Hotel Restaurant Casa Lorenzo, was held at the hotel’s facilities in our town.

The Mayor, Valentín Bueno, along with the Sports Councilor, Miguel Hergueta, the President of the Chess Federation of Castilla la Mancha, Facundo Castelli, the President of the Villarrobledo Chess Club, Pedro Javier Ortega, the coach, Julián Fernández, and Luis Fernández, the director of Hotel Casa Lorenzo, attended the event.

In this context, the Sports Councilor mentioned that the Sports Department always offers full collaboration within its capabilities and resources, emphasizing that the City Council provides institutional support to this regional event. In addition to coordinating tasks, the City Council is also contributing trophies that will be awarded on Monday the 14th to the winners of the championship.

The excellent work done by the Villarrobledo Chess Club was highlighted, growing in members, organizing local tournaments, gaining visibility in the region, and having a young Spanish champion, Lucas Ortega.

Julian Fernández explained that around 200 participants will gather at this championship in categories ranging from under-8 to under-18. He emphasized the importance for Villarrobledo to be the «epicenter» of regional chess during these days.

There will be 18 players from the Villarrobledo Club participating in this championship, in all age categories, ensuring that our city will be well represented in an event that also offers the opportunity for all visitors to discover Villarrobledo and all its resources.

Thanks were expressed to the Federation for their trust, to Casa Lorenzo for hosting the championship in their facilities and for supporting chess, and to the City Council for their collaboration.

Facundo Castelli added that the over 200 participants will arrive in Villarrobledo accompanied by their families, potentially exceeding 500 visitors to our city, bringing life and dynamism to the locality through this event.

He explained that in the championship dynamics, the younger participants will play 9 rounds, while the older ones will play 7, with the program aiming to finish on Monday the 14th around 8 in the evening, followed by the trophy presentation.

The Federation President affirmed that the event’s location has been well received due to Villarrobledo’s privileged position, centrally located and accessible for participants. The championship will have representation from 27 of the 33 chess clubs in Castilla la Mancha, providing access to the Spanish Championships.

All fans who cannot attend Casa Lorenzo to enjoy live games can watch them directly through the Federation’s website, which will broadcast 12 matches from the categories starting at 12 years old.

Luis Fernández from Casa Lorenzo expressed gratitude to the Federation for choosing their establishment to host «an event of this magnitude,» contributing to the local economy’s dynamism and promoting sports, values that he believes are part of the company’s identity.

The Mayor reiterated the importance of this event both in sports and its impact on our city, highlighting the involvement and commitment of the Chess Club to continue growing and gaining visibility, educating many children and young people in this sport. He emphasized the values of coexistence, respect, discipline, and the friendships created beyond the sport through chess.

The Mayor also praised the involvement of the Sports Council and Casa Lorenzo in hosting this event where hundreds of young people will compete and enjoy their sport.
