El PSOE de CLM pide cierre del Tajo-Segura en su 46 aniversario

The PSOE of Castilla-La Mancha, on the «sad anniversary» of the Tajo-Segura transfer, has advocated for its definitive closure and for a change in the exploitation rules to comply with the Supreme Court rulings.

This was highlighted by the Secretary of Electoral Action and Internal Communication of the PSOE of Castilla-La Mancha, Miguel Zamora, from Villarrobledo (Albacete), where the PSOE held its Regional Agriculture Council on Monday, attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Julián Martínez Lizán.

In this context, Zamora recalled that today marks the 46th anniversary of the Tajo-Segura transfer, a date that «no one from Castilla-La Mancha would want to celebrate,» he stated, referring to a transfer that only corresponds to «pre-autonomous logic.»

Therefore, he advocated for its «definitive closure» and for a change in the exploitation rules of the transfer, thus complying with the law and the five Supreme Court rulings, as reported by the PSOE in a press release.

These rulings maintain the ecological flows of the Tajo, he noted, while advocating for «the hydraulic and water resources of Castilla-La Mancha to also be utilized by the region’s farmers.»

PAGE’S SUPPORT FOR THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

On the other hand, the minister took this opportunity to emphasize the «facts» policy that the Emiliano García-Page government has been implementing for the benefit of the agricultural sector and in defense of water for the region against the PP and Vox, supported by data, such as a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) that has risen from 12% to 18% in eight years.

«All of this has been the result of the support from our regional government, which we will continue to implement in the future. Not in vain, in the latest budget of 2025, we have expanded the budget allocated to the promotion of agri-food products at fairs, even in foreign promotion. In this way, we confirm the support that our sector needs, and they are well aware of the work of our president and the hallmark of the policies of the PSOE of Castilla-La Mancha,» he asserted.

Additionally, Martínez Lizán defended the «clear and forceful power» that the agri-food productions of Castilla-La Mancha have achieved, where today exports are 75% higher than in 2015, «3.658 million euros have been exported, and to the United States, specifically, 130 million euros.»

Therefore, the American market is «important for our producers, our companies, and cooperatives, but it is not essential,» he said, recalling that the wines of this region reach 150 countries worldwide, and that’s where we need to continue advancing.

In this regard, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized that the «uncertainty» mainly comes from the announcements «of a person who, in 24 hours, is capable of changing the criteria for tariff application three or four times,» initially at 25%, and according to his latest announcements, up to 200%.

On the other hand, Miguel Zamora also referred to the «tension» caused by these tariffs, criticizing that «Vox’s superficial patriotism dies with Trump’s tariffs.»

He also criticized the PP for increasingly taking a back seat, as it depends on the far-right, on Vox, to maintain so many municipal governments in Castilla-La Mancha.

The Secretary General of the PSOE in Villarrobledo, Graciela Arenas, drew attention to the fact that it is no coincidence that this meeting took place in «the largest vineyard in the world,» and affirmed that President Page is aware of the problems, difficulties, and threats faced by the agricultural sector.

A sector that «we have always supported, believing that institutions should lead proposals and laws that safeguard the food chain,» she concluded, accompanied by the Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock of the Regional Executive, María Dolores Verdúguez.
