A new edition of VDO Jam is coming to Villarrobledo on the weekend of June 13, 14, and 15, with the collaboration of the Youth Council and continuing, for the third consecutive year, the initiative of the local artist, the late Juan Carlos Calero, known as «Wicky.»
!
This was stated by the Youth Councilor, Juan José Calero, along with the area coordinator, Martín Carpintero, and the artist Mr. Chapu, in charge of coordinating this new VDO Jam.
!
Calero points out that this activity was carried out for the first time in the sports area of the Juan Valero-San Antón neighborhood, with graffiti done on the wall of the Carmelitas convent, live music, cockfighting, and the participation of CBV hosting a 3×3 basketball tournament.
!
A positive experience that grew last year with the large graffiti done on the Paseos de la Virgen, on the facade of the soccer field, under the theme of Villarrobledo as the world’s largest vineyard.
!
This year, in its third edition, the chosen theme is Carnival, on a wall over 300 linear meters long, in the tunnel of the Nueva street bridge, where about fifteen graffiti artists from different parts of Spain will come together, on one hand, to collaborate on this urban art project and on the other, to pay tribute to their friend Wicky.
!
In addition, Saturday morning will be dedicated to offering a graffiti workshop, led by artist Nels, aimed at children, youth, and anyone curious about this artistic expression, which helps improve city spaces through urban art.
!
The councilor has expressed gratitude for the involvement of all the artists coming to Villarrobledo this weekend, as well as the business community that has embraced the event, such as Hotel Restaurante Casa Lorenzo providing accommodation, Restaurante Los Viñedos offering meals, and establishments like Bee Fury serving as the meeting point for the Jam, offering dinners, concerts, and live music throughout the weekend.
!
Other collaborating companies include Alkira Alor providing cranes, Hergetrans, Wall Zonee, and NBQ Spray.
!
Calero invites everyone to this new Vdo Jam, an event that represents a cultural and artistic addition to Villarrobledo, highlighting that although Wicky is no longer with us, his legacy and his great enthusiasm for this project continue through many of his friends, with this new mural serving as a permanent reminder of Juan Car.
!
On his part, Mr. Chapu mentions that around 15 artists from different parts of the country will participate in Vdo Jam 2025, recognized nationally and internationally, each contributing their own personality to create a work that speaks of Villarrobledo and its Carnival at one of the entrances to our city.
!
He expresses his appreciation for the significant involvement of all the sponsors, ensuring that both he and his colleagues arriving in the coming days feel at home.
!
Mr. Chapu adds that these types of events are enriching because, in addition to the relationships formed between the artists and the residents who come to watch them work, they leave behind a very important artistic heritage in the city, considering the quality and recognition of the artists, which also serves as a tourist attraction for Villarrobledo.
!
Mr. Chapu hopes that this year’s Vdo Jam will be a success, like the previous ones, recalling that this project began with Juan Carlos Calero «wanting to paint,» finding a wall through the City Council, with the Youth Council joining in and now reaching the third edition, with several works of art throughout the city.
!
He invites everyone to join them and children to participate in the Saturday morning workshop, so they can learn about this artistic discipline and perhaps, in some cases, discover future spray artists.
!
A great challenge lies ahead, of which Mr. Chapu has taken on a significant part of the responsibility, with a very large wall that requires a lot of coordination among the artists, but he is confident that together they will create a work that will capture the attention of all residents and visitors to the city.
