Valdepeñas celebrated International Women’s Day by awarding the ‘Mujer 2025’ recognitions, an event that took place on Friday afternoon as part of various activities to commemorate the day and highlight the importance of women in society while denouncing ongoing inequalities.
These awards are granted by the Valdepeñas City Council through the Women’s Center, at an event held at the La Confianza Cultural Center. Inmaculada Pacheco, the Equality Councilor, emphasized the value of the work and effort of each of the women recognized, stating that without them, the words feminism and equality would lose their meaning. She highlighted their role as the embodiment of these concepts through their hard work and dedication, which adds value to society alongside the policies implemented.
Pacheco concluded by pointing out that the efforts of these women, along with many others, serve as a model to follow not only on March 8th but every day of the year. The institutional event highlighted the role of women in society, honoring Kimie Hirai Skubbet, an agriculturalist and member of the Board of Directors of the Olive Cooperative of Valdepeñas (Colival), in the business/entrepreneurship category. In the educational/cultural field, Eva María Jesús Morales, a tutor in Geography and History at UNED, was recognized for her outstanding contributions. In the social sphere, María Dolores de la Cruz Fresneda, a health and legal psychologist, was honored, along with the Enlazados breastfeeding support association in the collective category.
The event also featured the presentation of awards for the ‘Stories for Equality’ contest, in which secondary and high school students from the municipality participated.
