Guadalajara city experienced an unforgettable day this Saturday with the celebration of the II Sports Day, which exceeded all expectations in terms of participation and attendance. More than 7,000 people actively took part in over 60 scheduled sports activities, and it is estimated that more than 20,000 attendees enjoyed the festive and healthy atmosphere that filled the streets and squares of the city.
The event, which this year focused on the visibility of women’s sports, involved local clubs, associations, and sports entities, as well as the collaboration of the Tour Universo Mujer program, which made a stop in Guadalajara as part of its national tour.
The Mayor Ana Guarinos played a prominent role throughout the day, participating in numerous activities and supporting the five godmothers of the event in their respective sports challenges. Athletes Carmen Rosales, Paula Letón, Aimara Fajardo, Henar Nieto, and Marta Martínez, references in their disciplines, were responsible for sponsoring this edition, inspiring hundreds of girls and young people with their example and commitment.
Alongside the Mayor, the Sports Councillor Armengol Engonga, the third Deputy Mayor Santiago López, as well as Councillors José Luis Alguacil and Roberto Narro, were present and actively participated in the activities, showing institutional support for sports as a driver of health, inclusion, and coexistence.
From early in the morning, emblematic spaces such as Plaza Mayor, Jardinillo, Santo Domingo, Concordia, and San Roque Pool transformed into open-air sports venues. Activities for all tastes and ages were offered, including zumba, yoga, pilates, fencing, archery, rugby, basketball, football, paddle tennis, canoeing, table tennis, fencing, chess, adapted sports, health workshops, and exhibitions.
One of the most emotional moments was the godmothers’ participation in their personal challenges, which ranged from endurance tests to inclusive activities, all with a strong emphasis on overcoming obstacles and visibility.
The day concluded with a festive atmosphere thanks to the Night Race, which toured the illuminated city center animated by the public. This race, open to all ages, put the finishing touch on a day that once again demonstrated that sports are a powerful tool for social cohesion, health, and citizen participation.
The City Council is already working on the next edition, with the aim of continuing to promote sports practice, health, and city pride.
