La Posada de los Portales hosted yesterday the inauguration of the exhibition «Mamá quiero ser artista», by the young creator José Luis Novillo. Numerous neighbors and art lovers gathered at the central cultural space to enjoy a show that is, in the words of the Councilor of Culture, Inés Losa, «much more than an exhibition: it is a manifesto».
During the inaugural event, Inés Losa highlighted the strength of the title chosen by Novillo: «There are titles that do not need explanation. Mamá, quiero ser artista is one of them. In just five words, it throws us at once to that first confession made in childhood, cultivated in adolescence, and never disappears. Because the desire to create and live through art is one of the few that does not rust with time».
Losa praised the trajectory and courage of the artist: «José Luis Novillo has not silenced that desire: he has turned it into painting, photography, fashion, scenography, makeup… into everything that vibrates in this exhibition. Today he opens the doors to his own universe with a brave, hybrid, contemporary proposal. And he does it in this Posada de los Portales, which was once a house of walkers and is now a house of creators».
The councilor emphasized the importance of supporting local talent and encouraged young people to pursue their dreams: «This show is not just an exhibition, it is a manifesto: art does not have to ask for permission. And the young people of Tomelloso do not have to go elsewhere to show themselves. Here, from here, it can also be done. From the City Council, we will continue to support these steps, these impulses, these first times that, in reality, are every time. Because in Tomelloso you can be an artist, and you can dream big».
The attending public also enjoyed the presentation of a video montage included in the exhibition, a piece full of symbolism, emotion, and freedom that reinforces the multidisciplinary and avant-garde character of Novillo’s proposal.
The exhibition «Mamá quiero ser artista» can be visited at the Posada de los Portales until July 13th.
