Guadalajara will once again host the initial section of the Reto Viaje a la Alcarria in its fourth edition, with the departure this Friday, May 16, at 4:00 p.m., from the Infantado Palace of that first neutralized two-kilometer section through the city, to the Athletics Track of Fuente de la Niña, «before embarking on three days and almost 200 kilometers, dozens of runners will become ambassadors of our landscape and our history.»
This was highlighted by the Sports Councilor, Armengol Engonga, who today participated in the presentation of this non-competitive event organized by the Club Maratón Guadalajara, with the collaboration among other institutions of the Guadalajara City Council, «which goes beyond sports, beyond physical effort or the number of kilometers traveled. We are here to present a CHALLENGE in capital letters, one that unites tradition, culture, nature, and, above all, people.»
«They will cross paths that Camilo José Cela already traveled in his mythical Journey to the Alcarria, but they will do it with a different kind of pen: that of their sneakers, leaving a mark on each section, writing another story — ours, the current one — which speaks of unity among towns, collaboration among institutions, and love for our land,» Engonga added.
Engonga especially thanked the organization, and Ismael Riendas, co-founder of the Club Maratón Guadalajara, as well as the volunteers and all the people who have worked and continue to work for this challenge to move forward. «You are an essential part of this machinery that makes it possible for sports to also be a driving force for tourism, rural development, and coexistence,» and to the participating teams their involvement, «because you will not only reach the finish line, you will leave a mark.»
For three days, more than sixty runners from both the province of Guadalajara and other parts of the national geography will travel nearly 200 kilometers through teams and relays of the path to the Alcarria that the Nobel Prize in Literature Camilo José Cela once did. Part of the proceeds will go to the Down Syndrome association.
