Almansa city will host the ninth edition of the Women’s Race on Friday, May 16, an event already established in the local calendar that will once again paint the streets purple on a day that combines sports, equality, and social commitment.
Belén Tercero highlighted the symbolic and social importance of this initiative, especially thanking the role of Carpe Dient, «the soul and ideologues of this race,» as well as the involvement of the associative, technical, and commercial fabric of the municipality. «The purple wave not only brings together women but also many men who join in defending women’s rights through sports. It is a transversal event that has transcended legislatures due to its meaning and collective strength,» stated the councilor, who encouraged all citizens to participate.
Rosa María García detailed the organizational aspects, announcing that registrations will be open from May 12 to 15, in the morning at the Sports Office and in the afternoon at the Sports Pavilion. This year, 2,000 bibs have been prepared, of which 1,400 (in purple) include a t-shirt. García clarified that the white bibs do not include it to avoid confusion. She also indicated that the collected food will be exclusively allocated to Caritas, while Red Cross will collaborate with volunteers. There will also be a photocall on the athletics track as a novelty.
From Carpe Dient, Alberto García reminded that although the race focuses on women, «anyone can join with a purple t-shirt, even from previous years, to walk together through the streets of the town.» Eva Tomás, on her part, presented this year’s t-shirt design: a unicorn, a symbol of hope. «We want to send a message to all women who have gone through or are going through difficult times. This design is also a tribute to our colleague Bea, the soul and heart of this race, who is always with us in spirit,» she expressed emotionally.
Once again, the Women’s Race in Almansa presents itself as much more than a sports event: it is a collective declaration of support, visibility, and empowerment.
