La mayoría del PSOE rechaza propuesta de Vox para mejorar colegio en Las Pedroñeras

Abascal and the PP have requested a new school in the town due to the deficiencies of the current one, and the PSOE accuses them of «overacting tremendously.»

The plenary session of the Cortes de Castilla-La Mancha rejected on Thursday, with the votes of the Socialist majority, the Non-Legislative Proposal (PNL) of Vox in which this party urged the urgent implementation of the necessary repairs and «dignified» maintenance at the ‘Adolfo Martínez Chicano’ Primary School in the town of Las Pedroñeras, in Cuenca.

The President of the Vox Parliamentary Group, David Moreno, echoed in his speech the complaints of the parents in the municipality who claim, he said, that their children «live with leaks of fecal water from the bathrooms.» «From the upper floor, they fall down the walls, accumulate in buckets, and generate a nauseating and unhealthy environment,» he added.

He indicated that there are «practically weekly gatherings» at the school gates demanding that «all these deficiencies» be addressed. «Also denouncing the deplorable state of the facilities and the abusive treatment that you are subjecting the students in the building to,» he said.

«Do you really think this is a model of progress, Mr. Counselor? Do you find the situation in many schools, and especially in this case in Las Pedroñeras, dignified? What else has to happen for you to get to work with projects, budget allocations, and necessary works in so many schools and high schools?» he asked.

At this point, he accused both the PSOE and the PP of agreeing to increase political spending with more deputies or higher public salaries. «However, the money must be allocated to what is truly important, and what is important is the educational quality and the health of the people of Castilla-La Mancha.»

A «HISTORICAL DEMAND»

On their part, PP deputy María José Gil began by acknowledging Vox for «joining» the ‘popular’ party in their demands regarding this school and stated her party’s willingness to vote in favor of the Non-Legislative Proposal on the school in the town of Cuenca.

Thus, after highlighting all the parliamentary actions that the PP has taken on this matter, which she described as a «historical demand» of the ‘popular’ party, she lamented that the PSOE has voted against them on several occasions. «This school needs repairs for an essential reason, which is to ensure the safety of its students,» she added.

«This is stated in a technical report prepared by the municipal technical architect in 2019,» she noted, pointing out that these are «deficiencies that the Council is aware of but does not address for their solution, nor does it address the alternative that has been proposed to build a new school.»

She also highlighted that the plenary session of the City Council of Las Pedroñeras has included this issue on its agenda and was mostly supported by the entire assembly except for the socialist councilors of that Corporation. «The fact is that to this day, the current school in Las Pedroñeras has serious deficiencies that are not only not addressed by the Council, but no progress has been made in building a new school,» she lamented.

«Instead of thinking about the students of that educational center, about the boys and girls and their families, the Government only puts obstacles in place and makes excuses such as the Education Council’s requirement of needing 11,000 square meters to build it,» she argued.

«AN ABSOLUTELY TREMENDOUS OVERACTING»

Next, Socialist deputy Ángel Tomás Godoy took the stand to accuse both the PP and Vox of carrying out «an absolutely tremendous overacting.» He accused Vox of diverting attention while accusing them of wasting public money when «since they arrived in the Cortes, they have not given up anything.»

He also told the ‘popular’ party that everything they said is «absolutely false» and that if anyone has tried to build a new school in Las Pedroñeras, it has been the regional government, adding that it has been the socialists in this municipality who are «constantly advocating» for a new center. «They are the ones here today facing the situation, while others are hiding. This is the attitude of one and the other.»

Finally, he told the PP and Vox that they will have it «very easy» because the PSOE has presented a resolution to this PNL –which did not succeed– «that can be approved if the three groups agree, understanding the frustration and discomfort of the parents with the situation in which the current School of Las Pedroñeras is located,» urging the City Council of the town to carry out maintenance tasks «urgently.»

Furthermore, it requested the Junta to carry out those repairs «that are not maintenance-related, nor a result of poor maintenance by the City Council, also urgently,» urged the Las Pedroñeras City Council to «urgently» make available to the Junta a single plot of at least 11,000 square meters to build a new school, and the Junta to build a new school «urgently» once it has the 11,000 square meter plot available.
