The play MALAS returns to Villarrobledo as part of the activities commemorating 8M
The play MALAS, by Miguel Galindo, directed by Manolo Valero and Pilar Simón, will be back on stage at the Gran Teatro this Thursday, March 20, at 9 p.m., as part of the International Women’s Day activities organized by the Villarrobledo City Council through the Women’s Center.
!
This was announced by the councilor for gender equality policies, Conchi Benítez, along with the Women’s Center technician, Alfonsa López, Manolo Valero, director of the play, and Paqui Peinado, one of the actresses in MALAS.
!
In this context, Benítez noted that with the commemoration of 8M, the City Council has worked on raising awareness among society about the differential situation of women compared to men, promoting a real and positive image of women in Villarrobledo, both in society in general and particularly in sports.
!
She added that they have also promoted a new culture of values that reinforces women’s empowerment and leadership in Villarrobledo, highlighting women’s struggle for their rights, their participation in society, and their integral development as individuals on equal footing with men.
!
Likewise, there has been a greater presence of women in all areas of society, both professionally and personally, offering women in Villarrobledo, especially young women, role models and references within the community.
!
All of this has been carried out through various activities, working with local educational centers in the IV Slogan and Short Stories Contest «Letters for Equality.»
!
Also, during the institutional event of 8M, the Equality Manifesto was read, and women in the community who are references in sports from various disciplines were recognized, coinciding with the opening of the Women and Sports Exhibition provided by the Castilla La Mancha Women’s Institute.
!
The activities also included a women’s soccer match held at the Virgen stadium, where Olímpico Villarrobledo faced Isport Albacete.
!
MALAS joins these activities, demonstrating that theater is a powerful tool for social change. MALAS is not just a play, but a reflection of the realities many women face every day, so the councilor invites you to attend this theatrical performance that continues to garner success and awards throughout the region.
!
Manolo Valero mentioned that A Cal y Canto Association has focused on plays that reclaim the role of women throughout history. The first was MALAS, followed by La Batalla and the most recent, Mujeres de Arena.
!
With all this, he added that the commitment was to re-stage Malas in Villarrobledo if they reached 50 performances, a goal that has already been surpassed with 55 shows of this play throughout the region and the country, coinciding with the 8M date.
!
MALAS has been well-received by the public, with 6 actresses portraying 6 fictional characters with a significant role in each of their works, reflecting the role of women in each era, from ancient Greece to the most contemporary times.
!
An aim of this play, according to Paqui Peinado, is to raise awareness among the audience, with a message in favor of equality and the struggle of many women to make progress in this regard over time.
!
Over the past 6 years, MALAS has garnered significant awards such as Best Director at the National Amateur Theater Contest, Ana de Velasco in Marcilla. It was also recognized as the third-best play at the Torrijos theater contest and the best play in Argamasilla de alba, among many other accolades. Manolo Valero invites you to this new performance, with tickets priced at 8 euros in advance and 10 at the box office, with all proceeds going to the 3 animal shelters in Villarrobledo.
