Guadalajara’s mayor, Ana Guarinos, along with other members of the municipal Corporation, attended the traditional Palm Sunday Procession today, known as the «Borriquilla», which marks the beginning of the religious celebrations of Holy Week in Guadalajara.
The procession started at 11:15 am in Santo Domingo Square and went all the way down Carrera Street to San Francisco Church, where the image of the Borriquilla was greeted with the clapping of palms by the members of the brotherhood, just as it started drizzling lightly.
The event was presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Sigüenza-Guadalajara, Bishop Julián Ruiz Martorell, who led the blessing of the olive branches and palms before the procession began.
The procession featured the participation of the Cornets and Drums Band of Jesus Nazareno and the Drums Group of the Passion of the Lord Brotherhood, who added a solemn and emotional touch to the route.
After the procession, a mass was held at San Francisco Church, presided over by the Bishop, emphasizing the importance of Holy Week as a time for reflection and spiritual renewal.
Holy Week in Guadalajara will continue with various events and processions over the next few days, solidifying its place as one of the most anticipated and significant festivities, declared a Regional Tourist Interest Festival since 1999.
