The exhibition ‘Amphibians’, a traveling show that started in the town of Viso del Marqués in Ciudad Real and is open at the Library of Castilla-La Mancha throughout the month of February, has generated so much interest that the funds on display have been expanded, and specific workshops have been scheduled for tomorrow and an afternoon session along with a new conference for this Monday, February 17.
The exhibit is a call to attention about the alarming situation of these small animals, with a large number of their species at risk of extinction, as reported by the Viso del Marqués City Council in a press release.
Access to the exhibition is free, from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and will be available for visiting until February 28th.
The Conference Room of the Library will host a new talk, free of charge, this Monday at 7:00 p.m., by the president of AVAN and a board member of the AVAN Natural Sciences Museum in Viso del Marqués, Eleuterio Baeza, who will present his museum, its activities, and collections.
This is the first time a natural sciences museum collaborates with the Library of Castilla-La Mancha in conducting specific activities related to one of its exhibitions.
Following this, there will be a guided tour of the photographic and documentary exhibition ‘Amphibians of the Raña de Horcajo lagoon’, with Francisco A. Bermejo and Pedro Luis Hernández, who will discuss the photographs, their acquisition process, and the origin of this project.
In addition, the exhibition in the hallway of the Borbón-Lorenzana Room of the Library has been expanded with more material, including amphibian replicas, fossils, and a diorama of the habitat of the common salamander provided by the AVAN Natural Sciences Museum along with guides, technical material, and other contents contributed by the authors of this photographic and documentary display.
On the same Monday, at 5:30 p.m., the ‘Amphibian and Crusian Emptying and Replica Painting Workshop’ has been scheduled for children and adults. The first part of the activity will be carried out by two members of the AVAN Natural Sciences Museum, who will provide participants with individual silicone molds and materials to create the replica piece.
In the second part of the workshop, the replicas previously made for the occasion by museum staff will be painted under the supervision of UCM Fine Arts professor Mónica Martínez-Bordiú. An explanation about the exhibition will be provided while the replicas dry.
