Semana del Libro de Valdepeñas: 16 actividades del 21 al 28 de abril

Valdepeñas will celebrate the Book Week from April 21 to 28, promoted by the Culture Department of the Town Hall with 16 activities aimed at audiences of all ages.

Exhibitions, workshops, and book presentations are some of the activities that will be available, as detailed by the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Vanessa Irla, accompanied by the director of the Public Library ‘Ana de Castro’, Mari Francis Marqués. «In total, there are 16 activities for all ages ranging from reading and storytelling shows to artistic creation and the discovery of the history of writing,» added Irla, stating that «we are confident that these activities will be an excellent opportunity to enjoy culture and the world of books and also, for those who have not yet done so, to have an excuse to visit the ‘Ana de Castro’ library.»

Furthermore, the Deputy Mayor of Culture also emphasized the importance of Book Day, celebrated on April 23, to «reaffirm the importance of books in our society and our lives, stimulating our imagination and memory.»

The first activity of Valdepeñas’ Book Week will begin on April 21 with an exhibition that can be enjoyed until May 9. ‘Nasciturus’ is a display of illustrated micro-stories, with texts by Pertinaz Pertinaz and illustrations by Maldomado, which will be located in the courtyard of the ‘La Confianza’ Cultural Center during this Book Week.

On the same day, at 5:15 p.m., the library will host the inauguration of the exhibition and the award ceremony of the ‘XXV Bookmark Contest’, followed by the storytelling show for children and families ‘Greek Myths’, presented by Héctor Urién.

On Tuesday, April 22, in coordination with ESO students, ‘La Confianza’ will host the workshops ‘History of Libraries: from tablets to e-books’ by CSIC, as part of the Ciudad Ciencia program. In the evening, at 8:30 p.m., the Inés Ibáñez Auditorium will be the stage for an oral storytelling show for adults entitled ‘Living to Tell It’, presented by Aldo Méndez.

The activities will continue on Wednesday, April 23, with a theater performance for primary school students titled ‘To Glory with Gloria Fuertes’, by the Teatro de Malta company. On the same day, at 8:00 p.m., ‘La Confianza’ will offer the talk ‘Don Quixote: an ingenious exercise in logic’, presented by Santos Neira.

On Thursday, April 24, in collaboration with ESO students, the book ‘Salumbi’ by Ana Amalia Rivas Orejón will be presented, and in the evening, at 6:00 p.m., a ceramics workshop for children aged 8 to 14 ‘Create your bookend pair’ will be held, led by Julieta García, with prior registration.

On Friday, April 25, at 5:30 p.m., the Story Time activity ‘Maisy and the Red Great Ball’ by Kids&Us will take place for children aged 1 to 3 accompanied by adults, with prior registration. At 7:30 p.m., a book carton-making workshop for adults will be conducted by La Alegría de la Huerta Manchega, with prior registration.

The Book Week will continue on Sunday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m., in Plaza de España with the family magic show ‘The Wizard of Books’, presented by Luigi Ludus. And on Monday, April 28, at 11:30 a.m., the activity ‘Farm Stories for Little Socks: accompanying early childhood’ will be held with families from the baby library, led by Rosa María Moreno Zapero. This activity will be repeated in the afternoon at 5:00 p.m. for children aged 2 to 4 accompanied by adults, with prior registration.

Irla concluded by stating that the culmination of the activities will be on Monday, April 28, at 8:00 p.m., with a meeting with the author. It will take place in the auditorium of the La Confianza Cultural Center with the presentation of the book ‘The Earth beneath Your Feet’, winner of the 2024 Azorín Novel Prize, by the writer Cristina López Barrio, finalist of the 2017 Planeta Prize.
