Valdepeñas has started the first phase of planting with 200 trees and 1,600 shrubs with an investment of 40,000 euros. The Valdepeñas City Council’s environmental department has initiated the first phase of planting for the 2025 Urban Renaturalization Plan of Valdepeñas. This initiative will cover parks, green areas, and streets throughout the city. The announcement was made by the Deputy Mayor of the Environment, Gregorio Sánchez, during an environmental education activity with students from IES Bernardo Balbuena. He stated, «We are starting with the planting of trees in the first phase, planting over 200 trees with a budget of over 30,000 euros, and more than 1,600 shrubs with a budget of over 10,000 euros.» In total, around 40,000 euros will be invested in this initial phase for the planting of trees and shrubs in different areas of Valdepeñas.
The first phase of plantations that will enhance the urban environment of Valdepeñas will continue over the next few months and will be followed by a second phase later this year. Regarding the activity at IES Bernardo Balbuena, Gregorio Sánchez highlighted that it is part of environmental activities with educational centers and associations. In the upcoming months, over 600 plants will be planted as part of these initiatives. Specifically, the project at IES Bernardo Balbuena aims to reclaim the outdoor green space of the center for outdoor activities, with 40 new plantations being carried out by the students themselves.
