The mayor of Valdepeñas and the Minister of Equality have visited a cooperative created by two women. Valdepeñas continues to be a leader in the creation of cooperatives in Castilla-La Mancha, according to data from the Union of Associated Work Cooperatives of Castilla-La Mancha (ClamCoop). A network to which hundreds of companies in the region are associated, such as Morse Asesores in Valdepeñas, created by two women, and which was visited this Thursday by the mayor, Jesús Martín, and the Minister of Equality, Sara Simón.
The mayor recalled that «Valdepeñas is the municipality with the most entrepreneurs in Castilla-La Mancha, looking empirically at population ratios, Valdepeñas, after the 2008 crisis and the pandemic, has increased the number of entrepreneurs, both men and women, compared to the net constitution of companies as we can conceive them.»
Jesús Martín also highlighted the fact that two women have started this cooperative, «which reaffirms the status of gender equality in the workplace, where there is still, for example, a 30% wage gap for the same activity.»
Valdepeñas is a reference in the creation of associated work cooperatives, as 80% of the cooperatives created in 2023 in the province of Ciudad Real were established in the City of Wine. At a regional level, 25% of the cooperatives created were exclusively in Valdepeñas.
These data were highlighted by the Minister of Equality, Sara Simón, stating that «it is a municipality that is not only a reference in entrepreneurship, but also in equality policies and is also an example for other municipalities in Castilla-La Mancha, as it is already developing the III Strategic Plan for Equality.»
Simón, who during her visit to Valdepeñas also met with the professionals of the Women’s Center in the town, added that 5,000 women have started their own businesses in the last ten years in Castilla-La Mancha.
On the other hand, she announced that this Friday, February 20, the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha will publish the V Luisa Alberca Lorente Journalistic Award, which aims to recognize and reward journalistic articles in press, radio, and television related to promoting real equal opportunities between men and women and against gender violence.
Feli and Vicen are the two women who have used the cooperative formula to start Morse Asesores in Valdepeñas, where they affirm that «women’s entrepreneurship in Valdepeñas has been growing, going from 5% of client companies to 40% currently.»
