Valdepeñas celebra 20 años de compromiso ambiental y educativo

Valdepeñas celebrates the XX Week of the Environment with more than fifteen activities that will take place until June 5th, to celebrate World Environment Day.

 

«It has been 20 years of commitment to the Environment in Valdepeñas, from an educational, awareness-raising, and dissemination point of view, which are the objectives of the Environment Week,» said the deputy mayor of the area, Gregorio Sánchez. This year, on June 5th, the theme revolves around plastic pollution, so on that day we will carry out an activity to raise awareness about plastic pollution that leads to humans having microplastics inside our bodies.»

 

During the opening of the exhibition ‘The Path of Packaging,’ which can be seen at La Confianza, Sánchez Yébenes announced that Valdepeñas has joined the Environmental Education Strategy of Castilla-La Mancha since May 15th, showing its commitment to instilling values that respect nature and its conservation.

 

Activities

 

Regarding the activities, it has been mentioned that in addition to the exhibition and bonsai workshop this weekend in El Peral, the exhibition ‘The Path of Packaging’ has opened its doors at the La Confianza Cultural Center this Monday, as part of the Prexta program. Castilla-La Mancha Environmental Education Strategy, open to the public until June 5th.

 

Throughout the month of June, the municipal public library ‘Ana de Castro’ will feature the center of interest ‘The Voice of the Earth,’ with a selection of reading materials, informative and educational books, as well as films, about the relationship of the human species with the planet it inhabits and shares with other species.

 

On Wednesday 28th, at 10:00 a.m., a planting of aromatic plants and oaks will be carried out in Amapola Park by students from the María Luisa Navarro Margati Special Education Center. And on Friday 30th, at 11:00 a.m., students from the Jesús Baeza school will participate in the creation of green schoolyards with the planting of aromatic plants.

 

On Saturday 31st, at 9:00 a.m., there will be an interpretive route starting from Valdepeñas and ending at the El Peral site. During the journey, the route will be interpreted from an environmental point of view and garbage will be collected. Once there, the interpretation of the Baños environment and the cleanup activity will continue, led by Ecologistas en Acción. Additionally, the Nature Classroom will be visited.

 

On the same day, at 11:00 a.m., there will be an open day at the Nature Classroom of El Peral, with an Environmental Department technician as a guide. Also, at 12:30 p.m., at the Botanical Path of El Peral, there will be a musical performance by the saxophone quartet of the Municipal School of Music and Dance Ignacio Morales Nieva, who will perform Vivaldi’s Spring and Peer Gynt’s Morning, both works inspired by nature.

 

Water and Animals

 

On Monday, June 2nd, at 6:00 p.m., there will be a children’s workshop titled ‘Planting Words,’ a reading animation activity, pot decoration, and planting at the La Confianza Cultural Center. On the other hand, the ‘Water Route’ excursion will be held, where the Fresneda Water Treatment Plant and the Vado de la Manzanera Wastewater Treatment Plant will be visited, with the collaboration of Water Infrastructures of Castilla La Mancha and Aqualia, with limited places for University Popular students.

 

On Tuesday, June 3rd, at 9:00 a.m., a course on the Law 7/2023 of March 28th on Responsible Animal Ownership and Coexistence, ethology, and canine care will begin in the auditorium of the Fátima Social Center. And at 11:30 a.m. at the dog park on Avenida de Castilnuevo, the activity ‘Exercises with Your Pet: Agility Circuit’ will take place.

 

Seniors will also participate in the XX Week of the Environment with an activity that will take place on Wednesday, June 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bonillas Senior Center. It is the eco-bingo ‘This is My Town,’ an activity conducted by the ‘You Are the Key’ program of the Ministry of Sustainable Development of the Government of Castilla La Mancha and the Extended Producer Responsibility collective systems.

 

Finally, on June 5th, at 10:00 a.m., students from the Special Education Center will install an insect hotel in Amapola Park. And at 11:00 a.m., the activity ‘The End of Plastic Pollution: Small Actions, Big Changes: Let’s Take Care of Our Planet!’ organized by the Integrated Care Management of the Valdepeñas hospital, with the collaboration of the Jesús Castillo Primary School, will take place. A walk from the school to the square will be done, collecting plastic waste along the way to practice plogging. In Plaza de España, a manifesto on the importance of environmental care will be read, and a recycling workshop will be held in the school classrooms.
