Emiliano García-Page anuncia fondos para comedores escolares en Castilla-La Mancha

Emiliano García-Page announces 73 million euros for the management of over 200 school canteens in Castilla-La Mancha

Uña, (Cuenca), July 7, 2025.- «Honesty is not an accessory to politics, it is a prerequisite. And the most honest thing is to fulfill,» said today the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, pointing out that with the restoration of the Uña tuff barrier, which was inaugurated today, another commitment from his program is fulfilled.

In this context, the regional government leader announced that tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8, the Castilla-La Mancha Government Council will approve 73 million euros for the management of over 200 school canteens in the region over the next two years.

García-Page, accompanied in this location by the first Vice President of the Junta, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, and the Minister of Sustainable Development, Mercedes Gómez, recalled, referring to the decade he has been in charge of the regional government, that at the beginning he asked his «colleagues» not to allow him to «repeat as a candidate in any way if I don’t turn around the main problem» the region had then, which summed up all the others: unemployment.

In this regard, he explained that «today we have exceeded our historical threshold, with over 900,000 people employed. We are growing in population and also in employed population.» In the same vein, he pointed out that «fulfilling what we have promised to citizens is the best thing to do, it is the best way to demonstrate honesty to them. We are not saints, we are not better than others, we are not here to give advice, but the reality is that the best catechism is that, what I have promised, what I have said, to try to fulfill it.»

In reference to these commitments, García-Page mentioned that this Wednesday, in Arenas de San Pedro (Ávila), he will renew a collaboration agreement in healthcare with Castilla y León. He also referred to a project that will be developed in the town of Abenójar (Ciudad Real), in a mine, which will create a significant number of jobs and boost the area.

Returning to the importance of the restoration of the Uña lagoon tuff barrier, García-Page thanked both the First Vice President of the Junta, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, and the President of the Cuenca Provincial Council, Álvaro Martínez Chana, for their commitment and dedication to making this resource a reality today.

«There are those who strive to show that they have great strength based on the fact that no one criticizes them, and there are people who strive to show that they have so much strength that, in reality, it seems that the whole building wobbles with a stone. And that is the opposite of strength, it is structural weakness,» he argued.

Likewise, García-Page acknowledged that with actions like the one inaugurated today, «what we are demonstrating is that when we talk about the environment, when we talk about nature, about sustainable development; we don’t do it like any other rally, we do it trying to show the strength that actions have, which is more than words.»

Restoration of the Uña lagoon tuff barrier

The importance of the restoration of the Uña lagoon tuff barrier in the province of Cuenca lies in the fact that it aims to recover, at least partially, the functionality of the waterfall or cascade of the lagoon, enabling the recovery of the geological processes of carbonate deposition on the barrier.

It is a tourist resource of utmost relevance for the Natural Park and it restores in the local collective memory a reference element, lost for almost 100 years.
