– Coinciding with the National Organ and Tissue Donor Day, the Parque de la Concordia has hosted an emotional event this morning around the Tree of Donors, a symbol of gratitude and memory towards those who have given life through donation, established as a commemorative element by the Guadalajara City Council last year.
The initiative, organized by the ALCER Guadalajara Association, has had the participation of the Health Councilor, Roberto Narro, along with the president of the Association for the Fight against Kidney Diseases (Alcer), Alfredo Barrado, other members of the association, and family members of transplant recipients.
“This tree represents the enormous generosity of those who have given a second chance to others. Today we pay tribute to their memory and their families, who are an example of solidarity,” expressed Narro, recalling that there have been eleven organ or tissue donations in Guadalajara in the past year.
The event has been part of a week of activities promoted by ALCER Guadalajara to raise awareness among the population about the importance of organ donation. During the morning, informative tables were set up in the park and at the University Hospital, where information was provided and testimonies of transplant recipients were collected.
“We want society to understand that donating is giving life. And that each person can make a difference,” stated Alfredo Barrado, president of ALCER Guadalajara.
A week to raise awareness and give thanks
The activities will continue this afternoon, at 7:00 p.m., with an informative talk at the Ibercaja Foundation about kidney disease and donation, with the participation of professionals from the Nephrology Service of the Hospital of Guadalajara and members of the association.
On Friday, June 7, the Plaza de Santo Domingo will host a solidarity zumba masterclass, followed by ALCER’s participation in the Health Fair.
“It is very important to continue promoting the culture of donation. This year, under the slogan ‘Do-Nation: Spain, a nation that gives its all in organ donation’, we want to remind everyone that every gesture counts,” emphasized Barrado.
