Inaugurada exposición sobre Carlos Edmundo De Ory y Valdepeñas

On Wednesday, the Mayor of Valdepeñas, Jesús Martín, inaugurated the Municipal Museum of the town with the exhibition ‘La cabaña central’, which showcases the life of the poet and essayist Carlos Edmundo De Ory. The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Vanessa Irla, the President of the Carlos Edmundo De Ory Foundation, Laura Lachèroy, and the curator of the exhibition Juan Manuel Bonet, among other dignitaries.

The exhibition, previously shown in cities like Cuenca, Paris, and Vienna, offers visitors a journey through the poet’s life, from his childhood in Cádiz, to his years in Madrid, and the extended period he spent in France, through the collection held by the Carlos Edmundo De Ory Foundation in Cádiz.

This collection includes correspondence and objects belonging to the poet, showcasing his close relationship with the postismo movement in La Mancha, connected to individuals like Francisco Nieva, Gregorio Prieto, and Ignacio Morales Nieva during post-war times.

During the inauguration, Jesús Martín expressed, “I continue to be amazed by being from Valdepeñas,” acknowledging that “it saddens me because I fear that those who do not see this exhibition do not realize what they are missing out on, or what it can contribute to contemporary knowledge of the cultural significance of Carlos Edmundo De Ory.”

The influence of Carlos Edmundo’s father, the modernist poet Eduardo de Ory, is evident through items saved from his library at the family home in Alameda, such as letters from Juan Ramón Jiménez or Rubén Darío. The creation of postismo in Madrid is illustrated through his connections with writers and artists from the Spanish post-war era, like Eduardo Chicharro, Juan Eduardo Cirlot, and Gloria Fuertes.

Laura Lachèroy, President of the Carlos Edmundo De Ory Foundation and widow of the poet, emphasized the importance of Valdepeñas for the Foundation by mentioning names like Paco Nieva, Ignacio Nieva, Juan Alcaide, and Gregorio Prieto, who, along with others from La Mancha like Ángel Crespo or Fernández Molina, all played a role in postismo.

This exhibition, open until August 10th, also portrays Carlos Edmundo’s voluntary exile in France, starting in Paris where he befriended prominent French poet Pierre-Jean Jouve, and later moving to Amiens where he founded the APO (Taller de Poesía Abierta) influenced by the events of May 1968 and the principles of postismo.
