Albacete celebrates this Sunday, June 29, the V Inclusive Race of the Association of People with Disabilities of Albacete (Amiab), which moves its dates to the beginning of summer in this year’s edition.
The solidarity sports event Amiab Albacete-Movement for Inclusion, named ‘Memorial Encarnación Rodríguez’ after the sadly deceased president of Amiab who promoted this race in the city of Albacete, will start at 10:00 am in the area adjacent to the Pincho de la Feria, in the grove where the Crafts Fair is installed during the Albacete Fair, as reported by the Association in a press release.
Singers María Rozalén and journalist Pedro Piqueras, illustrious natives of Albacete, have joined the call for anyone who wishes to participate in the race, whether to run it, walk the route, or simply attend and collaborate in favor of inclusion and supporting people with disabilities.
The Sports Councilor of Albacete, Francisco Villaescusa, along with the provincial deputy of Sports, Daniel Sancha, the provincial delegate of Education, Culture, and Sports, Diego Pérez, the sports director of BSR Amiab, Juanmi Cano, the responsible for the Social Area of Amiab, Óscar Sillas, sponsors, and members of the association, presented this Wednesday the V Inclusive Race of Amiab ‘Memorial Encarnación Rodríguez’ which will take place this Sunday, starting and finishing at the Fairground.
Villaescusa encouraged the citizens to participate in this inclusive event that puts the finishing touch to the solidarity races of the first semester of the year, which will resume after the summer, including Imaginalia, Un@ Más Association, Amac, Autism Development, Metasport, Apaceal, and Diabetes races, not forgetting the Miguel Salcedo Cross, the Civil Guard’s race, the Albacete Half Marathon, and the Albacete City BTT race.
The Sports Councilor congratulated Amiab for the work done to make this race a reality once again in our city, as its celebration decisively contributes to «raising awareness about disabilities, offering an inclusive and adapted sports activity for anyone to participate, and promoting an encounter between the entity’s workers, associates, runners, families, and the general public.»
The sports event in its fifth edition comes with significant novelties, being the first daytime edition and the inclusion of the Photography Contest, organized by Colectivo Foto and Visión Press, as reported by the City Council in a press release.
The first race, aimed at the youngest participants, will start at 10:00 am with a route of 750 meters. Following that, at 10:30 am, the race for adults will begin, covering a distance of 5 kilometers.
The sports event offers three prizes, for the winner and two runners-up. The winner will receive a cash prize of 300 euros, the second prize is a night in a hotel for two people, and the third prize is a meal or dinner at the ‘La Marteña’ restaurant in Albacete.
The Amiab race will be a perfect excuse to create a space for coexistence, with tents, music, snacks, and refreshments at affordable prices in the Fairground, before and after the sports event. There will also be children’s activities, Zumba by Áreafit, wheelchair basketball practice, and a charity market.
Immediately after the race, in the grove next to the Pincho de la Feria, there will be a gathering until 3:00 pm for all sponsors, members, participants, and invited personalities. Each registered participant will receive a drink and a ham or cheese tapa. Modesto Colorado and Pablo Moreno will entertain the gathering.
The race will have a sign language interpreter and volunteers to assist runners and those in need at all times.
