The Provincial Committee of the PSOE in Albacete held its meeting on Saturday to kick off the 17th Provincial Congress of the party. This process will renew the organic positions of the party in the province and will conclude on May 3 at the Palacio de Congresos de Albacete.
During the session, which coincided with the celebration of March 8th, the congress calendar was approved and the period for the presentation of precandidatures for the Provincial General Secretariat was officially opened. The political situation was reviewed during the Committee, analyzing the main challenges facing the province, the region, and the country, with discussions related to the economic context, social policies, and management challenges.
The socialists present in the province reaffirmed their commitment to improving the quality of life of citizens and strengthening public services. In this regard, the provincial president, Santi Cabañero, highlighted the benefits of social democratic policies implemented by the PSOE wherever it governs, ensuring that the PSOE in the province of Albacete is «a united party with a vocation of service to the citizens.»
«This upcoming congress will be an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to socialist values and continue advancing policies that improve people’s lives,» he stated. The General Secretary added, «I hope it will be a congress of debate, contributions, and ideological enrichment, which is what congresses should serve for, as well as a congress of unity, and I am convinced it will be.»
APPROVED CONGRESS CALENDAR
The provincial Organizational Secretary, Fran Valera, shared the details of the congress calendar immediately after the Committee meeting. The Provincial Committee members approved the calendar that will guide the congress process, setting the 17th Provincial Congress for Saturday, May 3, under the slogan ‘Para Ganar Albacete.’
Starting from that Saturday, the period for presenting candidatures for the Provincial General Secretariat opens, as a prelude to the primaries in case there are multiple candidates. The congress will conclude with the election of the new provincial leadership that will lead the PSOE in the province of Albacete in the coming years.
Valera detailed that a total of 252 delegates will participate in the 17th Provincial Congress, representing all the party associations in the province, including members of Juventudes Socialistas. Additionally, the deadline for presenting precandidatures for the General Secretariat will remain open until the following Tuesday, after which the process of collecting endorsements will begin if there are multiple candidatures.
After the Provincial Congress, the process of renewing the leadership bodies in all local PSOE associations in the province will begin.
