El Ayuntamiento de Albacete aprueba el nuevo Fondo Social al Alquiler con ayudas para habitaciones.

The Commission of Persons and Equality of the City Council of Albacete approved on Wednesday the call for rental assistance, the so-called ‘Rental Social Fund’, with a budget of 300,000 euros that can be increased if necessary without the need for a new call.

Mayor Manuel Serrano has announced that «this year we have introduced the novelty that people with a rental contract for a room can also benefit, especially to help many young people who opt for this option because they cannot afford to rent a home.»

This call is part of the economic assistance aimed at individuals and families in the city and its districts who are in vulnerable situations, as reported by the City Council in a press release.

The goal, according to Serrano, is «to prevent situations of risk or social exclusion due to economic precariousness, ensuring that these individuals and families do not pay more than a certain percentage of their monthly income for rent, with the City Council covering the difference up to 100% of the monthly rent.»

Individuals who are the holders of a rental contract, whether public or private, and who reside in the municipality of Albacete and its districts, registered before the publication date of the call, are eligible for this assistance.

The household must not own a property and must not exceed the established income limits: 1,587.60 euros for a single member; 1,653.75 euros for two members; 2,067.19 euros for three members; 2,583.98 euros for four members, and 3,229.98 for five or more members. The rent must be between 150 euros and 650 euros, and for room rentals, the monthly amount must not exceed 200 euros.

Applicants must have sufficient financial resources to cover 30% of the rent for at least six months from the publication date of the call. For young people up to 35 years old, their income must allow them to cover 20% of the rent.

The amount of economic assistance will be the difference between 30% of the monthly income (20% for young people) and the monthly rent, multiplied by a period of up to six months.

Priority will be given to households with lower incomes, calculated based on the per capita income of the household, for the allocation of assistance.

The deadline for submission is 20 calendar days from the publication in the Official Gazette of the Province, and the rental contract in the name of the applicant must be provided with the application, even in the case of room rentals (applicants up to 35 years old may submit a pre-rental contract).

If there is no obligation to file a tax return, a responsible declaration of the household income must be provided.

Additionally, a work contract and at least the last two pay stubs of all household members must be attached, along with proof of disability of over 65% or Grade III dependency. In cases of separation or divorce, the regulatory agreement and alimony must also be provided.

Mayor Serrano emphasized that «with the Rental Social Fund, we continue to support citizens and families in need, and we have also responded to a growing social reality by including room rentals that young people are increasingly turning to.»
