Despite the rain and the cold, Miguelturra has once again shown that its Carnival does not surrender to the inclement weather. Thus, Carnival Sunday has been celebrated again, although with some changes and alterations in its official program.
The cold and rainy morning began at 9:00 a.m. with the Diana of the Peña El Jamón, which, as every year, woke up the residents of Miguelturra to the sound of a reveille that toured numerous streets of the town, as reported by the City Council in a press release.
Subsequently, around 10:30 a.m., the Peña Los Maltrataos warmed up the many masks passing through the vicinity of Plaza de España with a large hot chocolate accompanied by sweets.
The morning continued with the Children’s Carnival, organized by the Peña El Bufón. Due to the rain that intensified mid-morning, the originally planned parade was suspended, but the children’s party was held inside the Carnival Palace, where several hundred people, including children and families, gathered.
Also present were the Councilor for Festivities, Carmen María Mohíno, the representative of the Cultural Association of Carnival Peñas, Raúl Domínguez, and the Carnival Queens: the 2025 Queens, Berna Martínez and Esther Martínez, and the 2024 Queens, Rafael Gómez and María Luisa Ocaña.
This year, a separate area was designated for children and another for families, and at the end, candies were given to the children who enjoyed the show. In addition, families who wished to do so could immortalize this celebration with the carnival-themed photobooth installed at the entrance of CERE.
Carnival Sunday is a day when the Peñas Los Cansaliebres, Los Rocheros, Kapikúa, Barón Amarillo, and Alhiguí celebrate their monographic days, so there was no shortage of meals offered for tasting by the townspeople, highlighting the Manchego gastronomy. The rain forced most peñas to offer their meals in the area of the portals of Plaza de España and Calle Don José Mora.
At 2:30 p.m., the children’s workshops were inaugurated, featuring makeup, masks, masks, ties, and Indian feather headdresses. It took place in the exhibition hall of the Carnival Museum.
An intense Sunday morning of Carnival, soaked by water, where pranks and disguises once again triumphed over the bad weather in Miguelturra.
