The Government of Castilla-La Mancha trusts that «once and for all» progress will be made in the search for a new financing system that guarantees equal opportunities for public services for all citizens.
This is what the Minister of Finance, Public Administrations, and Digital Transformation, Juan Alfonso Ruiz Molina, will defend this Tuesday in Seville at a Conference on ‘Regional Financing and Underfinanced Communities,» as mentioned by the first vice president of the regional government, José Luis Martínez Guijarro, in response to questions from the media.
«We believe that a new financing system for the autonomous communities must be developed and approved. We have been living with an outdated financing model for eleven years, which not only generates perverse effects but also causes many disadvantages to our Autonomous Community. We have to make a huge effort to finance public services in order to provide them on equal terms to all citizens,» commented the first vice president.
He highlighted how maintaining public services in education, healthcare, or care for dependent individuals in three-quarters of the region «is tremendously expensive,» and this is not covered by the financing system of the autonomous communities. We are doing it at the expense of the funds allocated to the Autonomous Community, which greatly hinders our ability to carry out other types of actions,» he emphasized.
Therefore, he continued, «When we are calling for a new financing model for the autonomous communities, we are asking the Spanish government to pay the actual cost of providing services to citizens in a way that guarantees equal opportunities in accessing those public services,» and that is what the regional finance minister is conveying this Tuesday in Seville.
