The crochet umbrellas will be hanging in the streets of Valdepeñas this year and will once again feature the original crochet umbrellas that can now be seen up close in an exhibition at the Inés Ibáñez Braña Auditorium.
The exhibition showcases some of the 120 umbrellas that will be hung this year on Juan Alcaide Street. These umbrellas have been crafted by the creative crochet workshop at the Lucero Senior Center, along with volunteers from the Cachiporro Social Center and the Virgen de la Cabeza association.
«This activity is part of the active aging program that we promote so much from the Lucero Senior Center,» emphasized the Councilor for Social Services, María del Mar Marqués, stating that «crocheting is the yoga of the mind, recommended by psychotherapists to achieve relaxation, so it is a mental sport and is trained in this way.»
The creative crochet group currently consists of ten people who crochet with yarn donated by individuals. Antonia Sánchez is a volunteer monitor for this creative crochet group and explained that «some people use a template and follow it, while others create as they go, based on their creativity, with a lot of affection and love, because at first it is difficult, but then it is relaxing.»
The crochet umbrella exhibition can be visited on June 17 and 18 at the Inés Ibáñez Braña Auditorium, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
