Valdepeñas will celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8th with a series of activities, including a commemorative event and the presentation of the ‘Woman 2025’ awards.
The Councilor for Equality, Inmaculada Pacheco, highlighted that this day, with the theme ‘Building equality: The future you want starts with you,’ is an opportunity to emphasize the ongoing effort for gender equality and the role each individual plays in creating a fairer and more equitable world.
Activities will kick off on March 5th with a gathering for women’s groups, featuring a guided tour of the Marqués de Santa Cruz Palace in Viso del Marqués and a visit to the Natural Science Museum in the town.
On March 7th, the commemorative event will take place at Plaza de España at 12:00, in collaboration with the Local Women’s Council of Valdepeñas. The event will include a reading of the manifesto by council members, such as Rosae and Feceval, along with the participation of writer Trini Moreno.
Later that day, at 18:30, the Centro Cultural La Confianza will host the institutional event where the ‘Woman 2025’ awards will be presented. Pacheco announced that the recipients include Kimie Hirai Skubbet in the business/entrepreneurship category, Eva María Jesus Morales in the educational/cultural field, María Dolores de la Cruz Fresneda in the social sphere, and the Association for Breastfeeding Support ‘Enlazados’ in the collective category.
The event will also feature the presentation of the ‘Stories for Equality’ contest awards, with participation from secondary and high school students in the municipality.
Additionally, the Councilor mentioned other initiatives such as the launch of a campaign on new masculinities by the State Pact, an equality workshop for 6th-grade students at CEIP Juan Alcaide, and the illumination of lettering in Valdepeñas to commemorate the day. Programs for the dissemination of the V Luisa Alberca Journalism Prize, a mural project in collaboration with AFAD, and a mural design by arts students from IES Bernardo de Balbuena are also planned.
