The presentation of the book ‘Loca’ by Pedro Güido took place at the Cultural Center ‘La Confianza’ on Friday. This innovative work not only serves as a literary piece but also as a theatrical experiment that reinterprets the figure of Juana I of Castile, historically known as ‘The Mad’, sparking a discussion about the narratives that have been passed down through the centuries.
Julia Cejudo, councilor of the Valdepeñas City Council, attended the event and highlighted the fresh perspective given to a woman who may not have been as mad as history depicts, especially when different versions of the same events are presented, particularly when they involve women.
Pedro Güido, a native of Jaén, emphasized that his book sheds light on Juana’s mental state when she ascended to the throne, arguing that she was not ‘mad’ at that time, but rather imprisoned in a castle for 50 years. He further stated that, given Isabel La Católica’s love for Castile, she would not have appointed Juana as her heir if she truly believed Juana was insane.
During the presentation of ‘Loca’, a talented group of professional actors brought the characters of the book to life at La Confianza through dramatized readings, turning the event into a theatrical experience.
The presentation of ‘Loca’ at La Confianza offers a unique insight into the truth behind Juana I of Castile, challenging the traditional narratives that have been passed down through history. This event marks a significant contribution to the exploration of women’s roles in history and the reinterpretation of historical figures.
