The Valdepeñas city has recently joined the network of smart pools by integrating the Nagi Smartpool system. This system allows swimmers at the heated pool of the Los Llanos Sports Complex in Valdepeñas to monitor their training sessions in real-time. «This project will put us on the national sports map,» stated David Sevilla, the Deputy Mayor for Sports, emphasizing that Valdepeñas will be among the few pools in Spain and the third in Castilla-La Mancha to implement this new system. This system enhances safety and time control for both professional and amateur swimmers, contributing to the development of sports tourism.
In Valdepeñas, 80 devices will be available for swimmers to attach to their goggles or caps for monitoring. The system can be monitored on a screen and is connected to an alarm system that alerts the lifeguard if necessary, potentially saving lives. Endorsed by the Spanish Swimming Federation, this system has been successfully implemented in other countries.
The new smart pool system in Valdepeñas represents an investment of €90,000, with funding split equally between the Valdepeñas City Council and European funds. However, further investments totaling €150,000 are planned for the Los Llanos Sports Complex in the coming months. Vanessa Irla, the Deputy Mayor for Finance, announced upcoming repairs to the pool cover, replacement of lane dividers, and the installation of a ramp in the small pool for accessibility. These improvements will enhance the sports complex, making it more inclusive and modern.
